Nevadans need jobs now!

In Michelle Fiore on May 23, 2012 at 11:51 am

Lots of candidates say they will create jobs, and I often call myself a “job creator”, but I think it’s important to explain the difference and why we need more “job creators” in Carson City.

Our public sector jobs are important. We need our police, fire and social services, but private and small businesses are what drive our economy. As long as our Nevada businesses are afraid to grow and entrepreneurs are afraid to start new ventures, we won’t see true recovery. Our businesses and families are spending too much time and money dealing with taxation, regulation, and litigation when they could be innovating and expanding.

I have more than 20 years experience managing businesses and employing Nevadans. I’ve hired more than 1800 employees, and I sign the paychecks every week. That’s real job creation. I know that for our local businesses to get back on track, we need to limit unnecessary government interference and quit taxing businesses for putting our neighbors back to work.

When I’m not in the office, I’m in the classroom, teaching my staff the importance of customer service. We work in the home health care industry where we’re entrusted with family and friends who need a little extra help around the house. We must be up on the latest safety and health laws to make sure our clients receive the best possible service. We work under constantly changing and evolving government regulations that often make it difficult for those we care for to get everything they need.

Nevada has always been a place for opportunity, and that shouldn’t stop now. So many people come to the United States looking for a brighter future, but today, the American Dream is simply finding a good job. I know in my heart that Las Vegas and Nevada will recover, and we will rebuild. Hang in there with me. I believe our legislature can and will focus on polices that create a simpler and more transparent business economy with less taxation and regulation that will allow our economy to flourish and get our fellow Nevadans living the American Dream again.

Yours truly,

Michele Fiore

PS – If you agree that it’s time to quit talking and start acting to bring jobs back to Nevada, I need your help. Please consider making a contribution to help send me to Carson City where I will fight to give businesses the support they need to start putting Nevadans back to work.

Oceguera says election is about priorities — offers none!

In John Oceguera on May 8, 2012 at 5:47 pm

Las Vegas – In an appearance on last night’s Face to Face with Jon Ralston, Democratic challenger for Congress in Nevada’s 3rd District, John Oceguera, refused to answer questions on a wide range of issues including the Affordable Patient Protection and Care Act, commonly referred to as Obamacare, the 2009 stimulus bill, Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the foreclosure crisis.

“John Oceguera’s comments regarding economic priorities for Southern Nevada were disingenuous at best,” said Assemblyman Mark Sherwood who worked alongside Oceguera in the 2011 legislative session. “While the City of North Las Vegas teetered on the edge of bankruptcy, Oceguera was taking more than $400,000 from the city coffers as an absentee firefighter. We don’t need those ‘priorities’ in Washington.”

Rather than provide his positions on the issues, or his solutions to the challenges facing Nevada families, Oceguera chose instead to resort to Democratic Party talking points. When asked by the host what Joe Heck could have done that he didn’t do, Oceguera again had no answers:

“You’re afraid to take a position on this bill,” said Face to Face host Jon Ralston, after Oceguera refused to answer whether or not he would have supported the Affordable Care Act in Congress.

“I got close to a ‘yes’ out of him by the end of the first segment,” Ralston added, after a vague answer on whether the Affordable Care Act is worth the additional $574 million in Medicaid costs to Nevada.

“I can’t get you to take a position [on the stimulus bill],” pressed Ralston, after Oceguera side-stepped his question on the effectiveness of Barack Obama’s 2009 $800 billion stimulus package.

“This is what Democrats do,” continued Ralston. “They criticize Republicans for the Ryan Budget, and say they’re going to end Medicare, but then they have no plan at all to fix Medicare.”

Oceguera offered only one solution to help protect Medicare, which was to cut waste. He claimed he had done that in his job as Nevada Assembly Speaker, despite spending an estimated $30,000 of taxpayer dollars installing a state-of-the-art legislative gym after dozens of legislative layoffs.

“It appears that John Oceguera’s only priority is going to Washington, and not giving the voters of Southern Nevada the answers they need and deserve,” added Assemblyman John Hambrick. “It is unfortunate that he is continuing his lackluster approach to the challenges facing our community.”

Oceguera 5 D’s of running for Congress: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge

In John Oceguera on May 8, 2012 at 5:22 pm

John Oceguera just can’t seem to give a straight answer. You’ve heard of a candidates who will say anything to get elected. Here’s a guy who will ‘say nothing’.

Las Vegas, NV – Today, Nevada Republican Party Executive Director David Gallagher released the following statement regarding John Oceguera’s recent interviews:

John Oceguera is the Patches O’Houlihan of Nevada Politics, always ready to dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge questions about everything and anything under the sun. Despite more than 45 minutes worth of interviews by three different reporters, Oceguera refused to take a single position on major Dem legislation including Obamacare and the failed stimulus.

The closest thing Oceguera did to taking a substantive position was when he insinuated he would vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House – but even there he couldn’t give a firm answer. This lack of leadership won’t get Nevada’s economy going again, Nevadans deserve better.
